HOA Communication & Chat
Forget paper notes on bulletin boards or mass emails. The Chat module in Domee.app provides fast, secure communication between residents and the HOA board.
1. Privacy and Chat Settings
The app places great emphasis on privacy. Both the board and individual users control who can communicate with whom:
Board view: In Settings > HOA Management, the board can decide in "General Settings" whether to allow residents to start private chats with each other. If this option is disabled, neighbors cannot message each other — chat serves primarily for board-to-owner communication.

User view: Each owner can set in their profile whether they wish to be contacted by other residents. However, the HOA board can always reach you to ensure you stay informed about building matters.

2. Creating a New Thread
Board members can start communication in two ways:
- From the main HOA overview in the Latest Communication section by tapping + New Thread.
- Directly in the Chat tab by tapping the + New Thread button in the Active Communication section.

Chat Types
When creating a new thread, choose its type:
- Public: The message is visible to all owners in the HOA. Ideal for announcements about water shutoffs, elevator maintenance or meter reading dates.
- Private: Select a specific owner to address an individual matter (e.g. a billing question or a reported defect).

3. Communication Flow
- Create: Fill in the Chat name (subject) and Chat description (opening message).
- Notifications: Once sent, recipients receive an immediate push notification on their phone.
- Replies: Users can respond directly in the app. The full conversation history stays neatly stored under the thread.
- Archiving: Once a topic is resolved, the board can move the chat to Archived Chats to keep the Active Communication section tidy.

Tip: Use public chat for important operational announcements. For reporting defects, use the Issues module — communication there is tied directly to the specific repair.
